Designer discovery..

I'm 17 years old, and since I was a very young age I've known about designer labels. My mum and dad often kitted my younger siblings and I in designer get-up, but of course we never really paid attention to them. Then, as we got older and used to visit Dublin, my mum and sister used to go crazy over Brown Thomas. Me? I didn't care at all. I couldn't see the big fuss on the brightly coloured Juicy Couture bags, or the recognisable label of Louis Vuitton. I didn't understand why anyone would want to buy a brown bag - little did I know that there were other colours and styles available. To cut a long story short, I just didn't get fashion.
To be perfectly honest, I'm really only noticing it now. My sister, at aged 11, got the famous Cerises Louis Vuitton. At that time I was 12 and I really did not know why she would want to spend so much money on one small bag - whereas I would love to have spent it in a sports shop. Yes, I was pretty much a tomboy. As well as this, she also paid for a Gucci make-up bag - herself. Aged 11 also. It is easy to see who the fashionista is in my family - and she inherited this from our mother.
However, enough about the past. Nowadays, I'm noticing fashion. I was shocked to hear Alexander McQueen had died, and even more astonished that I knew his forename was Lee. A few years ago, I wouldn't have been able to tell you who or what he was. Honestly. Now though, I find myself longingly looking through ChloƩ bags and Luella's spring/summer 2010 line, and Burberry Prorsum has really caught my eye. Despite this, I am really a highstreet girl. Topshop, River Island - you name it, i want it.
At the minute, I'm watching 'Confessions of a Shopaholic' which has inspired me to begin writing this blog. Rebecca Bloomwood, a shopaholic, really portrays the extremes of spending - but to be honest the designer labels shown are not my cup of tea. And those Gucci boots - brown and red? No! Not what i would call a good label hunt to be perfectly honest. As well as this film, Tavi Gevinson has inspired me. Weird, her being 13 and me 17. She has dominated magazines and blogspots for so long, I remember first reading about her during Summer '09. Her opinions and views on designer labels and couture pieces have really oppurtuned an eye-opener for me.
As well as this - in my future career I would love to become a journalist. So perhaps this blog could widen my understanding of what it's really like to write a piece. Whether it's accounted for or not.
